Like everything else in life, being nice to a girl by buying her a perishable horticultural product is important and should be done in moderation. Too often and it becomes banal, too predictably on birthdays and Valentines' and it becomes a cliche; but done on the sly, after many months of skilful contempt of flower-sending, and you've got a well-timed surprise.

Of course, the note matters - you don't want to sound sappy or stilted.
